Licence
- Foreign licences must be exchanged within 12 months of arrival.
- Some countries require a practical test; check with your cantonal road traffic office.
Owning a car
- Motorway vignette required (CHF 40 per year, e-vignette available).
- Liability insurance is mandatory; vehicle tax is set by the canton.
- Periodic vehicle inspection (MFK / expertise) is arranged by the cantonal office.
On the road
- Speed fines are strict and can be income-based for serious offences.
- Carry a warning triangle; headlights on during the day.
